About Mark Tanner, CPA

Nonprofit organizations are asked to accomplish incredible things with limited resources.

While mission-driven leaders focus on serving their communities, the financial and

compliance demands behind the scenes continue to grow. That's where I can help.

I'm Mark Tanner, CPA, founder of Nonprofit Finance Partners. I've worked in accounting and

finance since 2015 and have been a licensed CPA since 2017. My career has been built around

helping organizations navigate complex financial challenges while maintaining strong

stewardship of their resources.

I began my career with Gary McGee & Co., LLP, a public accounting firm specializing in nonprofit organizations. As a Senior Associate, I led approximately 40 nonprofit audits and gained extensive experience reviewing grant-funded programs, evaluating financial compliance, reviewing internal controls.

Throughout my career, I've also held various accounting and finance leadership roles. In these roles, I have worked on complex accounting matters, financial reporting, process improvements, and large-scale accounting initiatives. Among the accomplishments I am most proud of are leading a KPI reporting overhaul and helping implement the ASC 842 lease accounting standard and ASC 326 current expected credit loss standard within a large organization.

I chose to focus on nonprofit organizations because I understand the unique challenges they face. Many nonprofits operate with lean administrative budgets and often lack access to experienced financial leadership. Yet the finance function remains critical to organizational success. Grant compliance, accurate financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, and board reporting are essential responsibilities that require both technical expertise and practical experience.

My goal is simple: provide nonprofit leaders with the financial knowledge, structure, and support they need to make informed decisions and focus on their mission. I enjoy helping organizations bring positive change to their communities, and I believe strong financial management is one of the most important foundations for achieving lasting impact.

Clients can expect a collaborative and approachable working style backed by deep technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results. Whether you need controller services, strategic financial guidance, audit preparation support, or help navigating complex accounting requirements, I'm here to help your organization build a stronger financial future.

At Nonprofit Finance Partners, I strive to be more than an accountant. I aim to be a trusted financial partner who values your mission, understands your challenges, and helps your organization achieve its goals.
